CHILD ARRANGEMENTS PLAN
Important jurisdiction and formalities warning
This fictional plan is a practical example, not legal advice and not a universally binding child-arrangements order. In England and Wales, the child's welfare is the court's paramount consideration. A parental agreement may need a consent order, and safeguarding, parental responsibility, relocation, holiday, education and domestic-abuse issues require particular advice. The plan must not be used to restrict a child from seeking help or to override an existing court order. Check current law, court forms and any directions before relying on it.
1. Family and purpose
This plan is agreed on 4 November 2026 by Daniel Oliver Reeves, of 11 Brookfield Rise, Coventry CV3 2QW, and Amelia Jane Reeves, of 83 Linton Road, Coventry CV2 1LR, concerning our children Maya Elise Reeves, born 12 June 2016, and Thomas Jude Reeves, born 9 September 2019. We separated on 18 February 2026. We intend to provide predictable routines while recognising that the children's needs may change.
Both parents will speak about the other respectfully in the children's presence. We will not ask Maya or Thomas to carry messages, choose sides or report on the other household. We will listen to their views in an age-appropriate way without making them responsible for decisions. If a safety concern arises, safeguarding and professional advice take priority over ordinary arrangements.
2. Where the children live and ordinary week
The children will live primarily with Amelia during school weeks. Daniel will have time with them from after school on Wednesday until school drop-off on Thursday and on alternate weekends from Friday at 5:30 p.m. until Monday school drop-off. If school is closed, the parent beginning time will collect from the other parent's home at 9:30 a.m. unless they agree another location.
During Daniel's weekend, he will take the children to his home at the address above and return them clean, rested and with school items. During Amelia's periods, she will provide the same practical care. The parents will share the children's school calendar, medical appointments and important notices. A delay of more than fifteen minutes will be communicated by telephone, and the children will not be left waiting without an adult arrangement.
3. Holidays and special days
The school holidays will be divided broadly equally where practicable. By 1 February each year, the parents will exchange preferred holiday dates. Daniel may have the first week of the Easter holiday in even-numbered years and the second week in odd-numbered years. Amelia may have the opposite week. Summer holidays will be divided into two periods of up to fourteen nights each, with no parent taking more than fourteen consecutive nights without written agreement.
The children will spend Christmas Day from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with Daniel in even-numbered years and with Amelia in odd-numbered years. The other parent will have 10:00 a.m. on 24 December until 10:00 a.m. on 25 December, and 6:00 p.m. on Christmas Day until 10:00 a.m. on 27 December. Birthdays will be shared where calm and practical; otherwise the parent who does not have the children overnight will have a two-hour call or visit. Mother's Day and Father's Day will be spent with the relevant parent if safe and practicable.
Neither parent will book travel that conflicts with the other parent's confirmed time without agreement. A holiday outside the United Kingdom requires details of destination, accommodation, dates, transport and emergency contact at least twenty-eight days in advance, and any consent required by law or a court order must be obtained.
4. Communication and information
The children may telephone or video-call the other parent between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on non-contact evenings, subject to homework, sleep and the child's wishes. Each parent will have access to school and medical information to the extent permitted by parental responsibility and applicable policy. Daniel will be told promptly about significant illness, injury, school concerns or an emergency; Amelia will receive the same information during Daniel's care.
Routine decisions are made by the parent caring for the children. The parents will consult before changing school, consenting to non-urgent surgery, making a significant religious decision, or starting regular counselling. If they disagree, they will obtain information from the relevant professional and attempt mediation unless urgency or safety makes that inappropriate.
5. Practical costs and review
Each parent pays ordinary costs during their own time. They will share agreed school trips, uniforms, prescribed treatment and activities in proportion to their incomes, currently 45 percent Daniel and 55 percent Amelia. For example, the children's annual school and activity budget is presently estimated at £1,860, excluding ordinary food and clothing. A parent seeking reimbursement will send a receipt, and the other will pay within fourteen days. No one will use payment disputes to cancel time with the children.
The parents will review this plan every six months and after a major change in school, health, work, residence or the children's wishes. An agreed change should be dated and signed. If a disagreement persists, either parent may seek mediation, legal advice or a court decision.
