# DIY WILL INSTRUCTION LETTER

Date: 22 March 2033

Parties: Robert Ellis and executors Sarah Ellis and Imran Chowdhury

## 1. Purpose and parties

I, Robert James Ellis of 41 Meadow Court, Oxford OX3 7PT, aged 67, write this private letter to accompany my will dated 20 March 2033. The original will is signed and witnessed by two independent witnesses and is kept in the fire-resistant cabinet at my home; my solicitor, Cotswold Legal LLP, holds a scanned copy under CLE/RE/2033/19. This letter records practical information and does not amend, revoke or interpret the will.

## 2. Facts, scope and terms

My executors are my spouse Sarah Louise Ellis of the same address and my friend Imran Chowdhury of 8 Park Lane, Oxford OX2 6HF. They may act jointly or as otherwise permitted by the will and law. If either cannot act, the will's substitute provision applies. I have told both executors where the original is kept, but the cabinet code is in a sealed envelope marked “Robert—estate” in the solicitor's client file, not in this letter.

## 3. Process and responsibilities

My main assets are the jointly owned home at 41 Meadow Court, Oxford, title number ON543210, with an estimated value of £420,000 and mortgage balance about £96,000; sole savings of £18,600 at Calder Bank account ending 1182; an ISA worth about £12,400 at Northstar Investments, reference NS-ISA-771; and a pension with Harbour Life, policy HL-90881. Sarah is the nominated pension beneficiary, but the executors should check the provider's current expression-of-wishes form because pension benefits may not form part of the estate.

## 4. Evidence, records and safeguards

I also own a 2019 blue Ford Focus, registration EX19 RJE, estimated at £8,500, and household contents insured under policy HB-44018. Online banking passwords, device passcodes, cryptocurrency keys and recovery codes are not written here. The sealed digital-instructions envelope is held by Sarah, and it contains access directions only; no one should copy or disclose credentials or move digital assets without checking the will, provider terms and legal advice.

## 5. Review, escalation and outcome

My preference is cremation at Oxford Crematorium with a simple non-religious service, music chosen by Sarah, and no floral tributes. If practicable, please invite close family and make donations to Oxfordshire Mind, charity number 1084696, instead of flowers. These are wishes only: the executors should make lawful and affordable arrangements, check any prepaid plan (none is currently held), and follow my separate organ-donation registration rather than relying on this letter.

## 6. Reservations and practical protections

Please notify the mortgage lender, banks, insurer, pension provider, utility companies and HMRC after death, obtain valuations at the date of death, and keep estate money separate from personal money. The executors should secure the house, redirect post, check for debts and tax, and obtain probate advice before distributing assets. They should retain invoices and estate accounts; the listed values are estimates made on 22 March 2033, not gifts or binding valuations.

## 7. England and Wales law and completion

This completed fictional letter is governed by England and Wales law and was signed on 22 March 2033 while I had capacity and acted voluntarily. My will remains the controlling document, and I will replace this letter if my wishes or assets change. Sarah and Imran should acknowledge receipt, preserve it with the will, and seek professional advice if any instruction conflicts with the signed will, a codicil, a creditor's claim or a legal duty.
