# ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABILITY POLICY
Date: 12 August 2029
Parties: Marlowe Foods Ltd and its employees, contractors and suppliers
## 1. Parties and purpose
Marlowe Foods Ltd (Company No. 06742190) adopts this policy for its Leeds bakery, offices, employees, contractors and material suppliers. The Board commits to preventing pollution, using resources responsibly and complying with the Environment Act 2021, environmental permits, waste law and applicable local authority requirements.
## 2. Scope, price and subject
Marlowe’s baseline is calendar year 2028: 1,240 tCO2e Scope 1 and 2 and an estimated 680 tCO2e material Scope 3. It targets a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 by 2030, 100% renewable electricity from 2029, and net zero across the value chain by 2045, subject to annual review and credible evidence.
## 3. Operating duties
The bakery will reduce gas and electricity per tonne by 12% by 2030 through heat recovery, maintenance and efficient ovens. Fleet replacement favours electric vans where operationally suitable. Waste follows the hierarchy: prevent, reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, dispose; food waste is segregated and sent to anaerobic digestion where available, with zero-landfill performance reported annually.
## 4. Compliance, records and controls
Water meters are read monthly; Marlowe targets a 15% reduction in water per tonne by 2030 and investigates abnormal use. The company protects drainage and nearby habitats, does not discharge trade effluent without consent and assesses biodiversity impacts for new sites. Spills are contained, recorded and reported to the relevant regulator where required.
## 5. Term, ending and remedies
Procurement scores suppliers on emissions, lawful waste handling, packaging reduction, deforestation risk and evidence of permits. Contracts require compliance, information on material incidents and reasonable audit co-operation. Business travel is avoided where remote work is effective; rail is preferred for UK journeys and a cycle-to-work scheme is offered.
## 6. Liability and reservations
The Sustainability Lead maintains the emissions inventory, permits register, waste transfer notes, training record and corrective-action log. The Board reviews quarterly performance and publishes an annual summary consistent with SECR obligations where applicable. Employees may report concerns without retaliation; deliberate pollution, concealment or false data may be disciplinary misconduct.
## 7. Governing law and signatures
The Board approves the policy on 12 August 2029 and reviews it annually. English law governs contractual commitments expressly incorporating it; mandatory environmental duties prevail. The policy is a control framework, not a promise that every target will be achieved, and each project must obtain specialist advice before relying on an environmental claim.
