# FAULTY GOODS REFUND CLAIM

Date: 2 April 2031

Parties: Aisha Rahman and Northgate Electrical Retail Ltd

## 1. Purpose and parties

Aisha Rahman of 31 Park View, Sheffield, bought a Northgate NovaBook 14 laptop from Northgate Electrical Retail Ltd online under order NE-20874. The order was accepted on 6 March 2031, delivered on 8 March and cost £1,149, paid by Aisha's debit card. This letter gives notice that Aisha rejects the goods and seeks the short-term right to reject under section 20 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

## 2. Facts, scope and terms

During ordinary university use, the laptop stopped charging on 25 March after its battery fell to 12%. The supplied charger works with a second compatible device, while the NovaBook charging port becomes hot and disconnects. On 29 March the display began flickering with horizontal lines and then went black for 18 seconds at a time. Aisha used the laptop on a desk, did not spill liquid or install unauthorised parts and retained the packaging.

## 3. Process and responsibilities

The faults make the laptop unsatisfactory in quality and not fit for the ordinary purpose of reliable study, and they do not conform to the product description promising a 14-inch 2.8K display and all-day battery. Aisha reported the faults through Northgate's portal at 10:22 on 30 March under case NG-5512. Northgate offered a paid diagnostic inspection, but Aisha does not accept that a consumer must pay to exercise a statutory remedy for a fault appearing within 30 days.

## 4. Evidence, records and safeguards

Aisha encloses the order confirmation, delivery record, invoice, photographs of the hot port and display lines, a 42-second video showing the screen failure, portal case NG-5512 and a contemporaneous university note recording the lost seminar work. The laptop is available for collection from 31 Park View, Sheffield, between 09:00 and 17:00 on 7 April 2031, provided Northgate supplies a prepaid tracked label and safe packaging instructions.

## 5. Review, escalation and outcome

Aisha requests a full refund of £1,149 to the original payment method within 14 days after Northgate receives the laptop. She does not seek repair or replacement as her primary remedy because the short-term right to reject applies, but she will consider a replacement only if she expressly agrees in writing after inspecting a new sealed unit. Northgate must not deduct for use, collection or inspection from the statutory refund.

## 6. Reservations and practical protections

Northgate should acknowledge this claim by 9 April 2031, arrange collection and confirm the refund date. If it disputes the fault, it must provide a detailed technical report identifying the alleged misuse and preserve the laptop without altering its condition. Aisha reserves a claim for any reasonable delivery or data-recovery expense, will keep a backup of evidence, and will request a debit-card chargeback if the retailer refuses to resolve the matter.

## 7. England and Wales law and completion

This completed fictional claim is dated 2 April 2031 and governed by the law of England and Wales. It is made within 30 days of delivery and does not limit Aisha's rights under sections 9, 10, 11, 20, 23 or 24 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the Limitation Act 1980, or any applicable ADR and court procedure. Aisha remains willing to cooperate reasonably, but collection of the goods must not be treated as acceptance of a repair-only outcome.
