# HOMEWORKING HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK ASSESSMENT
Date: 6 May 2032
Parties: Daniel Okoye, Fenland Legal Services Limited and Priya Shah
## 1. Purpose and parties
This assessment was completed on 6 May 2032 for Daniel Okoye, a Legal Caseworker employed by Fenland Legal Services Limited. Daniel works at home on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays under the homeworking agreement dated 12 January 2032, and attends the Cambridge office on Wednesdays and Fridays. The assessed work area is a dedicated room at 42 Orchard Close, Cambridge CB4 2NX. Priya Shah, Health and Safety Manager, carried out the assessment with Daniel by video.
## 2. Facts, scope and terms
The workstation has a separate desk, an adjustable chair with lumbar support, a laptop on a stand, an external keyboard and mouse, and a monitor positioned about 60 centimetres from Daniel's eyes. The room has a window and an adjustable lamp with no material screen glare. Daniel completed a display-screen assessment under the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992, and the risk is low provided he changes position, takes short breaks and reports discomfort; the employer will provide an ergonomic footrest by 20 May 2032.
## 3. Process and responsibilities
The laptop and monitor use a surge-protected extension lead with no overloaded sockets, and Fenland's equipment electrical inspection was recorded on 28 April 2032. Daniel will not alter domestic wiring or use damaged equipment. A smoke alarm is in the hallway outside the room and was tested on 1 May 2032; the fire exit is the front door, and no client file is stored on paper at home. Manual-handling risk is low because Daniel does not lift anything heavier than a laptop bag, and he will use both hands on stairs.
## 4. Evidence, records and safeguards
Daniel is sometimes the only person working at home, so he will send a check-in message to Priya by 09:15 on each homeworking day and a completion message by 17:30. If he misses the morning check-in, Priya will call by 09:30; an unanswered call will be escalated to the emergency contact, Helen Okafor, after a further 30 minutes. Daniel is not expected to conduct client visits from home. Work-related accidents or near misses must be reported promptly, and any reportable incident will be considered under RIDDOR.
## 5. Review, escalation and outcome
Confidential legal material must be accessed through Fenland's VPN and encrypted laptop, with automatic screen lock after five minutes. Daniel must use the home router's password-protected network, keep the laptop away from visitors and children, and never print or place client documents in household recycling. He must report a lost device or suspected breach immediately to the Information Security Lead. Fenland will not require Daniel to record private conversations or permit an inspection of unrelated domestic areas.
## 6. Reservations and practical protections
Fenland will send the footrest by 20 May, and Daniel will confirm by email on 21 May that it is in place and that the screen, keyboard and mouse remain usable. Daniel will complete the online display-screen refresher by 13 May. The residual overall risk is low after these controls. Priya will review this assessment on 5 November 2032, or sooner if Daniel's health, address, equipment, duties or working pattern changes; the assessment does not replace an individual medical assessment.
## 7. England and Wales law and completion
This completed fictional assessment records Fenland's arrangements under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and related duties, but it does not certify the domestic electrical installation or transfer responsibility for it to the employer. Daniel and Priya signed electronically on 6 May 2032, and HR will keep the record securely with access limited to HR, Health and Safety and authorised managers. England and Wales law governs the assessment, and its controls supplement rather than reduce any contractual or statutory protection.
