# JURY DUTY DEFERRAL REQUEST
Date: 2 November 2038
Parties: Sophie Williams of 31 Linton Road, Sheffield S10 2HF; and the Jury Central Summoning Bureau for Sheffield Crown Court
## 1. Addressee and subject
To: Jury Central Summoning Bureau, for Sheffield Crown Court. Subject: summons SCB-441902—request to defer attendance from 5 December 2038. I have not previously deferred this summons and am asking for a different date rather than permanent excusal.
## 2. Reason and chronology
The summons requires attendance from 5 December. My father's respite provider has confirmed that its service closes from 3 to 17 December, leaving me as his sole overnight carer. The booking was made before the summons arrived, cannot be moved without losing the £480 deposit, and care cannot safely be replaced at short notice.
## 3. Procedure and careful request
Please consider this request under the current jury-summoning procedure and any applicable Juries Act 1974 provisions. I do not assume that a deferral is automatic or that the cited commitment guarantees approval. Please tell me whether the current online form or another prescribed route must be used and whether further evidence is required.
## 4. Evidence and alternative dates
I enclose the summons, the respite provider's closure and booking letter, proof of the £480 deposit, and my father's care rota. I can attend from 8 January 2039 and can offer 9–20 January or 5–16 February 2039, subject to the Bureau's availability.
## 5. Confirmation and status
Please acknowledge receipt by 9 November 2038 and confirm in writing whether the summons is deferred before 5 December. Until written confirmation arrives I understand that I must follow the summons and current instructions; this request alone does not excuse attendance. Signed, Sophie Williams, 2 November 2038.
