# PET TRANSFER AGREEMENT
## Agreement details and welfare purpose
This fictional agreement is made in Bristol on 6 April 2027 under reference BARK-BRS-2027-041. It records the permanent rehoming of one rescue dog and the parties' welfare arrangements. It is not a sale for breeding, a guarantee about temperament or health, or a substitute for advice from a veterinary surgeon, rescue organisation or local authority. The Animal Welfare Act 2006, microchip and keeper rules, dangerous-dog restrictions, public-space requirements, insurance terms and any rescue charity conditions continue to apply. The parties must act lawfully and must obtain urgent veterinary help if the dog is ill or injured.
Legal owner and authorised transferor: Megan Claire Holt, acting for Bristol Harbour Rescue, 4 Quay View, Hotwell Road, Bristol BS8 4RP, email megan.holt@example.test. Megan confirms that she is Mabel's legal owner, that Bristol Harbour Rescue has authorised her to arrange the rehoming, and that no other person or organisation has a superior claim to transfer Mabel under this agreement.

## The dog and handover
The animal is Mabel, a female mixed-breed dog, black and tan, born approximately 18 May 2021. Her rescue record number is BHR-1946. Her microchip number is 985141000672438 and the transferor will submit the keeper change to the microchip database on 7 April 2027, retaining the submission receipt. Thomas must confirm the new keeper details when the database contacts him and must update the database within seven days of any later change of address or telephone number. A microchip record is identification, not proof of title, and a lost-dog report must be made promptly if Mabel goes missing.
Mabel is handed over at Bristol Harbour Rescue, 4 Quay View, at 10.00 am on 6 April 2027. At handover Megan gives Thomas the collar, lead, harness, two days of the current food, vaccination record, neutering certificate, insurance quotation, behaviour notes and veterinary referral letter dated 29 March 2027. Megan, as legal owner and authorised transferor, then transfers legal ownership and physical possession of Mabel to Thomas, and Thomas accepts both at that handover time. The transfer is an unconditional rehoming gift and is not dependent on later insurance, a veterinary result or a return request. Mabel's transfer includes no cash payment. Thomas reimburses £86.40 for the microchip, vaccination and medication costs listed on receipt BHR-2027-118, calculated as £42.00 for vaccination, £24.40 for microchip registration and £20.00 for prescribed ear treatment. The reimbursement is not a purchase price and does not reduce the welfare duties in this agreement.
Megan states, to the best of the rescue's records, that Mabel was examined by Dr Nadia Ferreira, veterinary surgeon at Avon Gate Veterinary Practice, 118 Gloucester Road, Bristol BS7 8NT, on 29 March 2027. The record notes a weight of 18.6 kilograms, a healed spay incision, mild seasonal skin irritation and no current prescription after the final ear-treatment dose on 5 April 2027. The rescue does not warrant that Mabel will remain healthy or that the record is complete. Thomas has had an opportunity to inspect the records and ask questions.
## Keeper's promises
Thomas accepts responsibility for Mabel from the handover time. He will provide clean water, suitable food, safe shelter, daily exercise appropriate to her health, companionship, humane training and prompt treatment. Mabel will live at 19 Redland Grove unless Thomas gives the transferor a current address in writing. She will not be chained or kept permanently outdoors, and she will not be subjected to physical punishment, unlicensed veterinary treatment or an avoidable operation. Any housing arrangement must permit the animal to be kept lawfully and safely.
Thomas will book an introductory examination with Avon Gate Veterinary Practice by 12 April 2027 and will follow reasonable veterinary advice. The vet may prescribe a different food, treatment or exercise plan, and that professional advice prevails over the routine in the handover notes. Thomas will keep vaccinations, parasite treatment, medication, weight, insurance claims and significant veterinary events in a dated care log. In an emergency he may consent to treatment needed to prevent suffering, and he must notify Leila and the rescue as soon as reasonably practicable.
Thomas must arrange pet insurance or demonstrate a realistic veterinary-cost plan by 20 April 2027. The intended policy is Harbour Mutual Pet Cover quotation HM-77420, with a £120 annual premium and a £250 excess, but Thomas is not required to buy that particular policy. Any policy must be checked for pre-existing conditions, dental exclusions, waiting periods, claim limits and emergency cover. The absence of insurance does not excuse treatment. Routine costs are Thomas's responsibility; the rescue gives no promise to pay a later bill.
## No breeding, sale or onward transfer
Mabel must not be bred, used for stud, placed in a breeding programme, sold, exchanged, used as security, or transferred to a commercial breeder. She has been spayed, and Thomas must not reverse or interfere with that procedure. Thomas must not give Mabel to another person, rescue, boarding establishment or household for more than fourteen consecutive days without first telling the rescue, except where an emergency placement is needed to protect her welfare.
If Thomas cannot keep Mabel, he must contact Megan and give at least fourteen days' notice where circumstances permit. The rescue has the first opportunity to arrange a safe return or approve a named new keeper, but legal ownership remains with Thomas unless he voluntarily signs a further transfer or a court or lawful authority orders otherwise. That opportunity is a welfare arrangement, not an unlawful right to seize the dog. Megan and the rescue must not enter Thomas's home, take Mabel, change the microchip record or use force without consent or lawful authority. If Mabel is in immediate danger, Thomas must contact a vet, emergency service, local authority or animal welfare organisation first. A new keeper must sign a fresh welfare agreement and receive the records. Thomas remains responsible until the agreed handover is complete.
The parties agree that a return will not be prevented by a dispute about reimbursement. If the rescue cannot accept Mabel safely, it will identify a suitable rescue or foster placement. Reasonable documented transport or emergency boarding costs may be discussed in advance; no party is entitled to demand an unspecified penalty. A breach may be addressed by a lawful claim for damages, an injunction or another remedy a court considers available; neither party may use self-help seizure or harassment. If a court must determine ownership or possession, the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, and this agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales, but urgent welfare action may be taken without waiting for a civil hearing.
## Records, identification and privacy
Megan will send Thomas electronic copies of the rescue, vaccination and neutering records by secure email on 7 April 2027. An email notice or record is effective only when Thomas acknowledges receipt in a reply or Megan independently verifies receipt with him by telephone using the telephone number stated above. If acknowledgment or independent verification has not occurred by the next working day, Megan must use telephone contact and then recorded post to 19 Redland Grove, and Thomas must use those methods when an important notice is not acknowledged. Email alone never authorises veterinary treatment, changes legal ownership or changes the keeper record. An urgent welfare concern must be reported by telephone to the other party and to a vet, local authority or emergency service; call 999 where there is an immediate risk to life or serious injury. Thomas will keep the originals or clearly readable copies and will show relevant records to a vet, insurer, boarding provider or lawful authority. Personal data in the records must not be posted publicly.
Thomas will use the harness and lead in public places, keep Mabel under effective control and comply with local rules. He will display the microchip contact number only as directed by the database and will not publish the full chip number on social media. Mabel's photographs may be shared to locate her if lost, but Thomas should remove the home address and other people's personal information. Leila may receive care updates at least monthly until 6 October 2027 and after a serious illness or change of keeper.
## Signatures and acknowledgement
The provisions concerning ownership and possession at handover, keeper duties, veterinary care, insurance, no breeding, no sale or onward transfer, records, notices, remedies, governing law and dispute handling are binding contractual terms. The request for monthly updates to Leila, the preference for photographs to omit unnecessary personal data, and any statement about a preferred food or routine are welfare preferences only and are not independent promises or conditions of ownership. Each person confirms that the names and addresses above are accurate, that Mabel was visible and apparently well enough to travel at handover, and that no promise has been made outside this document about a particular behaviour, lifespan or insurance outcome. This agreement does not prevent a statutory authority from exercising its powers or a vet from acting in Mabel's clinical interests.
