# SABBATICAL LEAVE AGREEMENT
Date: 6 January 2034
Parties: Northbridge Design Ltd and Eleanor Hughes
## 1. Purpose and parties
Northbridge Design Ltd of 18 Millbank Street, Leeds LS1 4RB and Eleanor Hughes of 42 Park Lane, Leeds LS6 2QJ agree this sabbatical arrangement on 6 January 2034. Eleanor is a senior designer employed under a contract dated 3 April 2028; this agreement varies that contract only as expressly stated.
## 2. Facts, scope and terms
The sabbatical will run from 1 March 2034 to 31 August 2034 inclusive, a period of 184 calendar days. It is unpaid, and Eleanor will not accrue salary during it. Her employment continues unless ended lawfully, and the period is not annual leave or a resignation.
## 3. Process and responsibilities
Eleanor will not be required to work during the sabbatical and will spend it on a personal study project. She must not represent herself as authorised to bind Northbridge, use confidential material, or approach Northbridge clients for a competing purpose. Existing confidentiality, intellectual-property and post-termination restrictions continue to the extent legally enforceable.
## 4. Evidence, records and safeguards
Northbridge will keep Eleanor's employment record and will continue private medical cover only if its insurer permits it and Eleanor pays the employee contribution of £38 per month by the 10th. Pension contributions, bonus eligibility and other benefits will be dealt with under their governing rules; no benefit is promised where a provider's rules prevent continuation.
## 5. Review, escalation and outcome
Eleanor will return to her substantive senior designer role at 9:00 am on 4 September 2034 at the Leeds office, subject to any reasonable workplace adjustment or agreed alternative. She must contact HR by 1 August with updated details and confirm her return by 23 August. Failure to return without explanation may be treated as an absence and handled under the employment contract and policy.
## 6. Reservations and practical protections
The parties will hold a welfare and return meeting on 12 September 2034. A request to extend the sabbatical must be made in writing by 1 August and is not effective unless Northbridge confirms it in writing. Either party may raise concerns through the grievance or other applicable procedure; this agreement does not waive statutory rights or prevent a lawful redundancy, capability or disciplinary process.
## 7. England and Wales law and completion
This completed fictional agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales. It is not a guarantee of a particular role if a lawful change occurs, and it does not remove duties under the Employment Rights Act 1996, Equality Act 2010, working-time legislation or data-protection law. Both parties had an opportunity for independent advice and retain a signed copy.
