# SECTION 20 COLLECTIVE CONSULTATION NOTICE
Date: 1 August 2032
Parties: Riverside Textiles Ltd and affected employees
## 1. Purpose and parties
Riverside Textiles Ltd of 5 Mill Lane, Nottingham NG2 3AA gives this written notice on 1 August 2032 to employees at its finishing site. The company is proposing to close the night-shift operation and may make 24 employees redundant. No final decision to dismiss has been made.
## 2. Facts, scope and terms
The proposal arises from a projected annual operating shortfall of £180,000. The night shift costs £420,000 a year and is forecast to produce £240,000 of contribution, giving the stated £180,000 gap. Riverside is also assessing a revised two-shift model; alternatives, vacancies and voluntary redundancy have not been decided.
## 3. Process and responsibilities
Because 20 or more redundancies may be proposed at one establishment within a 90-day period, Riverside intends to comply with the collective-consultation duties in the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992. The current proposal concerns 24 roles between 1 October and 31 December 2032, so the company is planning on the basis that the 30-day minimum consultation period applies, subject to legal advice and final numbers.
## 4. Evidence, records and safeguards
Riverside asks employees to nominate and elect representatives by 12 August. It proposes four representatives, one each for finishing, quality, maintenance and administration, with an election open to the affected employees in those groups. If a recognised trade union covers a group, its representatives may be involved as the law and collective arrangements provide.
## 5. Review, escalation and outcome
The consultation will address reasons for the proposal, numbers and categories affected, proposed selection criteria, timing, ways to avoid dismissals, reduce numbers and mitigate consequences. Riverside will provide reasonably necessary information, including the business case and role data, and will consult in good faith before any decision. Individual consultation and fair selection remain necessary where applicable.
## 6. Reservations and practical protections
The first representative meeting is proposed for 19 August at 10:00, with documents circulated at least five working days beforehand. Representatives may nominate alternatives in writing by 15 August. Employees may raise questions through hr@riverside.example.test or their representative; confidential personal data will be shared only as necessary and lawful.
## 7. England and Wales law and completion
This completed fictional notice is not a dismissal notice, a promise that redundancies will occur, or a substitute for notifying the Secretary of State on the required HR1 form if the statutory trigger applies. Riverside will keep election and consultation records, review the proposal, and give written outcome notices after consultation. The notice concerns England and Wales and preserves employees' rights to independent advice.
