# Care Home Fees Dispute Letter
Date: 5 October 2026
Parties and reference: Resident: Margaret Cole, Room 12, Willowbank Care Home, 18 Garden Way, Bath BA2 7PX. To: Home Manager, Willowbank Care Ltd. Resident account EXAMPLE-WB-0012.
## 1. Resident and disputed increase
Dear Home Manager, I write as the resident and contracting customer about your fee-increase letter received on 7 September 2026. My signed agreement dated 3 February 2025 fixes my existing fee at £1,250 per week and requires at least 28 days' written notice of a review increase with an explanation. Your letter increased the fee to £1,400 from 14 September, only seven days after receipt, without explaining the calculation.
## 2. Invoices and calculation
The invoices for the weeks beginning 14, 21 and 28 September each include the £150 uplift. I paid the undisputed £1,250 weekly fee for each week and have not paid those uplifts. The disputed balance is therefore £150 × 3 = £450. I calculate that 28 days after receipt on 7 September is 5 October; I ask you to explain any different contractual calculation. This does not concede that the proposed increase is otherwise contractually fair or justified.
## 3. Information and consumer-law concerns
Please identify the review clause, give the reasons and supporting cost explanation for the proposed increase, and supply the version of your terms in force when I signed. I ask you to consider the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requirements on transparency and fairness of consumer terms. I do not assume every increase or administration charge is unlawful; my complaint concerns the notice given, the stated contractual process and the unexplained application of this particular increase.
## 4. Remedy and continuity of care
Please credit the unpaid £450 uplifts, issue corrected statements and provide a properly reasoned prospective notice if you maintain the proposed increase. Do not collect the disputed amount or impose a late-payment fee while reviewing it. I will continue paying undisputed ongoing charges and ask you to confirm that my care and accommodation will not be disrupted as retaliation for raising a complaint. Any genuine contractual termination issue must be addressed separately with lawful notice and safe care planning.
## 5. Evidence, reply and escalation
Enclosed are my signed contract, the increase letter, three invoices and payment records. Please acknowledge within five working days and provide a reasoned complaint outcome within 14 days, or explain a reasonable timetable. If unresolved, please give the next stage of your complaints process and any route to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman applicable to this self-funded adult social care complaint. I understand that the Care Quality Commission generally uses concerns for regulation rather than awarding an individual fee refund. Yours faithfully, Margaret Cole, signed 5 October 2026.
