# Travel Insurance Cancellation Claim
Date: 19 October 2026
Parties and reference: Insured: Daniel Ward, 9 Example Grove, York. To Example Travel Insurers Ltd, Claims Team, 20 Insurance Example Street, London. Policy EXAMPLE-TR-2607; claim EXAMPLE-CAN-1012. Traveller: Daniel Ward only.
## 1. Trip, cover and cancellation event
I booked return flights and a hotel for a leisure trip to Thailand, departing 20 November and returning 27 November 2026, on 10 July 2026. The annual policy was purchased on 8 July, with the schedule recording cancellation cover from that date. On 11 October I was admitted unexpectedly with appendicitis and advised by the treating doctor not to make the booked trip during recovery. I cancelled with both suppliers and notified you on 12 October. This claim is subject to the actual cancellation wording, medical assessment and declared circumstances, not an assertion that every illness is covered.
## 2. Payments, refunds and net loss
The flight cost £900 and the prepaid hotel cost £640, giving total payments of £1,540. The airline has refunded £250; the hotel confirms no refund. The remaining cancellation loss is therefore £1,290. Applying the schedule's single-person cancellation excess of £100 produces a requested payment of £1,190, subject to valid limits and adjustments. I have not included a companion's costs, unused spending money or an unpurchased excursion. No chargeback, other insurance payment or further supplier credit has been received; I will report and credit any later recovery to avoid double recovery.
## 3. Evidence and medical privacy
I enclose the schedule, booking confirmations, payment evidence, dated cancellation notices and supplier refund statements. The doctor's 13 October certificate confirms the relevant diagnosis, treatment and travel restriction. Please provide a secure route for this certificate and any narrowly necessary further medical report, explaining what you need and why. This letter does not grant blanket access to all medical records or waive confidentiality. No known relevant symptoms preceded booking in this fictional scenario; please ask specific questions if you require clarification of the proposal declarations.
## 4. Assessment and communication requested
Please acknowledge the claim, identify any missing document and confirm the excess, cancellation limit and basis for any proposed deduction. If you consider an exclusion applies, quote the particular term and explain its connection to the evidence, rather than relying solely on a general label of pre-existing illness. I can supply a factual chronology but cannot give a clinical opinion. Please send correspondence to daniel.ward@example.com and verify bank details through your secure claims process, not by asking for full payment credentials by ordinary email.
## 5. Complaint route and declaration
This is an initial claim, not yet a complaint or a court claim. If I later dispute its handling, I will use your formal complaints process. For an eligible insurance complaint, referral to the Financial Ombudsman Service is generally possible after a final response or eight weeks without one, normally within six months of the final-response date; eligibility and other applicable time limits must be checked. Nothing here guarantees an Ombudsman award or stops a court limitation period. I confirm the above fictional facts and figures are complete to my knowledge. Signed Daniel Ward, 19 October 2026.
